Pre-Party DJ Practice

Last Friday my friends and I finalized all of our pre-party preparations. What’s this party for? Its a (really) late grad party we organized a little too late and ended up having to wait a few weeks to get a hall for.

What’s it having? 2 “pro” DJs, myself and my friend DJ Sean “Foto”, who’ll be spinning everything from Rap to Raggae to house, trance, dance and techno (trance provided by yours truly).

Friday we got together at DJ Foto’s place and practiced a little with his gear. Unfortunately one of his turntables is missing a needle (and yes, this will be my first time DJing with vinyl) so I’m not 100% on how this will actually go down when we rent professional turntables this Thursday (the day of the party), but here’s a video of my practice jam.

Setup: 2 Pioneer turntables with Torq software vinyl plates, 4 channel professional mixer (sorry, I missed the brand name), laptop running Windows and Torq DJ software.

Special Canada Day Live Mix!

Although I didn’t really mark this week’s Live Mix as a Canada Day special, it’s definitely a special one for a few big reasons!

First, Andy Moor & Ashley Wallbridge’s massive new tune “Faces” was released Monday and I set to work mashing up all 3 amazing versions of the tune, and the mashup is debuting as the opening track and Chart Topper of this week’s Live Mix!

Following this massive bootleg we’ve got the new Ben Gold single “Starstruck” and the amazing Jochen Miller remix, which I highly recommend you pick up ASAP, as well as the bouncy club banging Alex Gaudino remix of Armin van Buuren’s beautiful vocal track with Jacqueline Govaert “Never Say Never”.

After the AvB track has graced your ears your brought to a special final tune. Gavin Schulz AKA Savine (@GsMaverick on Twitter) has just finished the first version of his first Electronic Dance single called “Incandescent” and, since we’re such good friends, I was first in line to get on the remix tip naturally ;-)

The remix was my first and I can’t say its mindblowing or amazing, but I definitely had a blast remixing it and want to share that fun with you guys, so its the final tune of this week’s Mix!

Grab this week’s Live Mix on iTunes by clicking here!

More amazing tunes coming your way next week, and after that is my (very late) graduation party where I’ll be DJing live to an audience of over 100 people for 2 hours, which includes dropping my Faces Bootleg once again and a new remix of Re:Locate & Mark Sixma’s tune “Times X” that I can’t wait to play!

Keep checking back here on the blog for all the party details, tomorrow me and the other event organizers are finalizing everything and then I’ll be sure to let you guys know everything ASAP :)

My Grad Went Like This…

image1271465499.jpgMy grad is one I’ll surely remember for a long time to come, I can tell ya that.

It all started out on a nice, sunny day. Not a cloud in the sky.

First the news of Farrah Fawcett reached us, what a terrible loss. Twitter, Facebook, Digg and the like were all up in a buzz over her death, as that’s usually what happens with celebrity deaths.

The show had to go on though, and I soon found myself in line for my grad gown. KABOOM! A massive thunderstorm came out of nowhere and took out the power in the church. Dozens of teenage girls were screaming and crying while the rest of us calm, level headed graduates pulled out our cellphones and started navigating the rooms (lucky us, we were all in the biggest room in the basement and it was the only one with no emergency escape lights at all).

In the commotion, I got an X-Large gown when all I needed was a large, which resulted in lots of tripping and holding of the gown to keep me from falling over myself like a fool.

The next 3 hours was a mashup of social service awards, Navy Reservist commemorations and, well, awards. The “diplomas” we got were actually just pieces of paper with a large box printed on them (waste of ink much?) and getting them took the least amount of time.

But alas, the ceremony ended and the fun stuff began! All the photos and memories came back all at once as I hung out and posed for shots with my best buds from my years in school and shook hands with some older ones, then headed out with all the best wishes for the future behind me.

At this point, the news of Michael Jackson’s death reached me and turned the world upside down. He was a legend, the King of Pop, and he will truly be missed in this world.

The day was pretty much downhill from there as I got really tired and the world was shaken by death, but on a more positive note….

High school rocked, what can I say? It’s where my life truly began as an individual, and now I’m on my own.

Next year I’ll be studying digital graphics design at Mohawk, and continuing to develop as a person. I can’t wait for more fun to begin :)

What a Crazy Day

Wow…. hours ago I was sitting in a slightly air conditioned hall, waiting for the moment I’ve been striving towards for 4 years – my high school graduation.

The moment came and I was so happy. Extremely happy. Tearing up happy. My family and my friends and my wonderful, amazing girlfriend were there and it was amazing.

Then I got home…. And now I’m here watching the news of the passing of 3 of the biggest celebrity icons and wondering how stuff like this can really happen.

What a bad day for a graduation.

iPhone 3.0 Ready to Go

Today Rogers in Canada pushed an iPhone Carrier update that preps the units for Internet Tethering as well as MMS. Over the next little while I’ll be posting some screen grabs of iPhone OS 3.0 as well as some of its new features.

Here’s the new Airplane Mode Settings menu (as you can see, the Carrier option dissapears and the Phone Settings now reads “Airplane Mode”).

Here’s the Data Tethering settings pane…. (its difficult to understand, I know)

… And what it looks like to have it enabled and broadcasting from any other part of the OS.

The coolest thing is that the blue pane at the top flashes, real fancy Apple!

Here’s picture messaging (sending and recieving).

And here’s contact sharing (clicking the card shows you the shared contacts information, and you can then save it and add the contact to your address book).

Also, Find my iPhone is live and ready to go, making iPhone 3.0’s new networking features complete and ready for its official launch later this week!

Hands-On with the iPhone 3.0 Firmware

Just the other day I managed to get my hands on the new (still officially unreleased) iPhone 3.0 firmware file and install it. It works perfectly, and I recorded a quick video of the new firmware in action so you can really see how it runs and get a feel for how to use it.
